Gandhi School of Humanities and Social Sciences (GSHS) Winter School 2020, aims to bring
together potential research scholars from across India, and provide
them an opportunity to explore the diversity and scope of research in English
studies. The programme is a unique opportunity for post graduate students and
other research aspirants to interact with eminent scholars and familiarize
themselves with key and emerging areas of research in English Studies such as English Literature, English Language Teaching, Cultural Studies,
Gender Studies, Film Studies, Comparative Literature, and Post-Colonial Literature.

The
Winter School will be a five day long residential programme from 20th
to 24th January, 2020. There will be two sessions every day. The
morning sessions are reserved for plenary talks followed by workshops and
discussions in the afternoon.

Participants
Although
the Winter School is open to all, the programme is aimed at orienting students to
research. Therefore, we encourage post graduate students who wish to pursue
research after their course to make use of this opportunity. Nevertheless, we
do encourage all research aspirants to consider this as an
opportunity and feel free to apply.
Application
Interested

The application deadline is December 24, 2019 and any request received after
this date will not be considered. Since the programme is interactive, the
intake of participants is limited to 40. The selection committee
will review the applications and announce the list of selected candidates on 30th December 2019.
Course Fee
GSHS
Winter School 2020 is partially funded by GITAM in the best interests of the
students. Therefore, research scholars and student participants need to pay only Rs 2500/- for the
entire programme, which includes course fee, food and accommodation for 5 days
(19th January 6 pm to 24th January 6 pm. Additional hours would be considered as an extra day and participants would have to pay Rs. 250/- per each additional day). The selected
candidates will be accommodated in the student hostels on GITAM, Hyderabad campus. Fee for non-student participants is Rs 5000. The amount once paid will not be refunded. Instructions
regarding the mode of payment will be provided later.
Hyderabad Literary Festival 2020 (HLF)
It’s
an ideal opportunity for the Winter School participants to attend Hyderabad
Literary Festival which begins on 24th January and concludes on 26th
January. It is one of the celebrated literary festivals in the country.
Participants get to meet and interact with hundreds of internationally
acclaimed writers and scholars at the event. Those who wish to stay back and
attend this annual event are allowed to stay on our campus for the duration of HLF by
paying an additional fee of Rs 250/- per day (includes food and accommodation).
However, participants should vacate the hostel latest by 27th
